Rather intriguingly there are also rumours that these releases will be followed in quick succession by not only a budget model (similar to the product placement of Nokia 5800) plus a business version (possibly running with a QWERTY keypad). How the operating system will transmit to this smaller latter device remains to be seen, but with touchscreen-QWERTY pairings pretty common nowadays, it’s certainly more than feasible.
First up, here is a shot of the W8-00:
As you can pretty much see, this looks fantastic. We especially like the colour covers, which harks of a throw-back to the Xpress-on covers that the older models had, and certainly this is an area where few smartphones touch on. While this is not a huge deal-breaker, it certainly is a strength of the company.
The W7-00 is not likely pictured here but is likely to be the very same as the X7-00, with the angular sides, with only a change in the OS. The W8-00 is likely to be a higher end phone, perhaps with a default 16GB memory + microSD card slot, and a 12MP camera. Thanks to the dual-core Qualcomm processors, there should be no problem handling the demands of the Windows 7 operating system, resulting in a smooth experience.
All that we can hope for is that the high-end W8 model is specced better than the competition to really create a device that people are going to want. We’d expect release of these models in Q4 2011, with a slight chance of it being even earlier. No pricing info as yet but if we had to have a guess, the W7-00 should retail SIM-free around the £350-400 mark, with the W8-00 pushing the boundaries of iPhone pricing, anywhere from £450-£500.
